U.K. shares higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.06%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the gained 0.06%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Tesco PLC (LON:), which rose 1.92% or 4.90 points to trade at 260.10 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:) added 1.40% or 7.00 points to end at 508.80 and Intertek Group PLC (LON:) was up 1.37% or 56.00 points to 4,133.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:), which lost 2.82% or 13.60 points to trade at 469.60 in late trade. EasyJet PLC (LON:) declined 2.74% or 11.60 points to end at 412.40 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:) shed 2.14% or 12.00 points to 549.40.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 864 to 697 and 511 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.45% or 8.75 to $1,938.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.54% or 0.43 to hit $79.48 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.79% or 0.66 to trade at $84.02 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.02% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 104.08.
